You guys have got to check this out.

THIS FIRE WATER SERVICE IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED THRU THE YEARS. THE TOTAL HEIGHT IS 21 1/2″ TALL BY 12′ LONG. THE URN ITSELF IS 7″ IN DIAMETER AND 14″ TALL AND THE CUP IS 5″ TALL. THERE IS VERY ORNATE FLORAL DESIGNS THROUGHOUT AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS. THERE IS WEAR OF THE SILVERPLATE IN AREAS DUE TO THE CONTINUED CLEANING THROUGH THE YEARS BUT THE SERVICE SHOWS VERY, VERY WELL!! THE ONLY DEFECT THAT I CAN FIND IS THAT THE URN COVER IS NOT ATTACHED AND NEEDS BE BE REPAIRED. THIS IS A VERY UNUSUAL PRESENTATION PIECE AS IT IS FROM THE ROANOKE/ RICHMOND VIRGINIA AREA. THE INSCRIPTION IS “PRESENTED TO CHIEF J S KNEPP OF THE ROANOKE FIRE DEPT BY RICHMOND DELEGATION OF THE VA FIREMEN ASSO- JUNE 20TH / (18)88″. THE ROANOKE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ORGANIZED IN 1882 AS A VOLUNTEER COMPANY WITH 40 MEMBERS SO THIS ITEM NO DOUBT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST PRESENTATION ITEMS OF THAT DEPARTMENT!! BOTH THE CUP AND THE URN ARE STAMPED BY THE MANUFACTURER “HARTFORD SILVERPLATE QUADRUPLE” WITH THE ASSOCIATED SERIAL #. THIS COMPANY WAS IN BUSINESS FROM 1882 TO 1894 WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED BY THE BARBOUR SILVER COMPANY. THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF THE SERVICE IS 9 1/2 POUNDS– A VERY DIFFERENT AND NICE PIECE FOR YOUR COLLECTION!!THERE IS A REASONABLE RESERVE ON THIS SERVICE

This item is on ebay – you can view it here. The current price is $756. The reserve has not been met yet. I can tell you that this thing appears to be authentic and Knepp, whose name is inscribed in it, was the Chief of the Volunteers prior to McFall. McFall was the first Chief of the paid department.
