Old Station 3 Almost Through With the Face Lift
Comments: 1
Old Station 3, located at 6th and Rorer SW, is undergoing a face lift. The 100 year old station was closed down a handful of years ago. An architecture firm has bought it and is renovating it. I will have more information next week hopefully. They hope to open have the renovation complete by Sunday. You can view the old station here.
- The new stairs.
- Station 3
- Front of the station.
- New mahogany doors.
- The upstairs is not renovated yet.
- Home sweet home…for someone new.
- New windows throughout.
- Two last closets in the old Captains bunkroom.
- Closet doors.
- No more tin ceiling. This view is from the stairs above the new office space in the bay.
- Another view of the desk.
- Close up of the boiler/desk.
- A view down the new hallway. Similar view to looking around the front of Engine 3 back in the day.
- The new front desk made from the boiler. All that needs to be added is the glass top.
- A view of the doors from the inside.
- What is left of the boiler.
Isn’t it amazing to see what 1/4 of the cost of a new building can do for an old firehouse full of tradition. It’s good to see that someone who had no ties to the fire department thought enough of its architectural design and history to do what the city should have done and restore her back to her original glory. Paint and roof repair would have made old #3 last another 100 years if that would have been the city’s desire. Those of us who had the privilege to work there know that the only downfall were those damn 27 steps!
